Salone Aquaponic is currently constructing a new aquaponic system at the office premises in urban Freetown. The system will be established around the veranda and the compound and shall be capable of providing food for 6-8 people in that compound. Stay tuned!

Aquaponic Sustainability Kit for quick and easy food production - LOW ENERGY AQUAPONIC KIT

Salone Aquaponic has designed an aquaponic sustainability kit for aquaponic farming with focus on developing countries and areas with limited access to farm land. The system is low in energy consumption (40 Watts) and capable of producing enough food to create stable income and food security.

Salone Aquaponic Rasberry PI 2 Aquaponic controller

In order to remotely control various aquaponic systems in Sierra Leone, Salone Aquaponic is developing an aquaponic controller to monitor water quality and levels based on the Rasberry Pi 2.  In the next week we will test the set-up on an urban aquaponic setting in Freetown Sierra Leone. Raspberry Pi(s) as open platform for use as web-server and host for observation tools
35$ PC with connection-options for I2C, UART, SPI and USB for periphals like sensors and actuators (water-, ph-, ec-levels, pumps, food and lights control...)
Teaching programming skills in Python, free and easy to learn fully object-orientated programming language


OS: Raspbian (optimized version of Debian Linux for the Raspberry Pi)
Additional Software:
Apache 2 web-server
MySQL database-server and PHPMyAdmin for easy database management
Python as object-orientated programming language with built in GUI-builder (Tkinter) for complete control of GPIO-Pins and MySQL-database, user-integration

Planned additions:

Use of Django webserver to display data in any web-browser (e.g. on cellphones, tablets) for worldwide (or at least mobile via WIFI) control/observation of the system
